Motor competence and body mass index in the preschool years: a pooled cross-sectional analysis of 5545 children from eight countries

Key Points: 1. In preschool age children, there are already significant negative associations between motor skill competence (locomotor, ball, and total scores) and body mass index. 2. These associations became stronger for preschoolers who are classified as obese, regardless of sex. 3. Developing preschoolers` motor skill competence is recommended as part of a comprehensive approach to improving healthy weight status development.
