Maximal number of repetitions at percentages of the one repetition maximum: a meta-regression and moderator analysis of sex, age, training status, and exercise

Key Points: 1. We applied meta-regression to data from approximately 7000 individuals to update the table of the maximal number of repetitions completed at various percentages of one repetition maximum (REPS ~ %1RM relationship). 2. Sex, age, and training status did not clearly moderate the REPS ~ %1RM relationship; thus, estimates of mean repetitions and between-individuals variation in the main model table can be applied to most individuals and most exercises. 3. Numbers of repetitions completed across the loading spectrum were higher in the leg press than bench press; thus, separate REPS ~ %1RM tables were created for these two exercises.
