The most common technical errors in ice hockey shooting

The objective of this study is to gather theoretical and practical knowledge about ice hockey shooting techniques and examine what is required to learn the skill of shooting. It discusses a two-year-long project, the aim of which was to determine the most common technical errors in youth hockey. This thesis describes the basic shooting techniques from both a technical and a theoretical point of view and examines the steps involved in learning these techniques. This should be useful for those interested in shooting techniques and coaching. A practical shooting analysis project was conducted to analyse shooting and identify common technical errors. The shooting styles researched were wrist shot, snap shot and slap shot. The participants of the project were filmed in the summers of 2017 and 2018. There were almost 300 participants, and each of them received individual feedback. The results consist of a summary of all the feedback. The respondents stated that the most common technical errors relate to the rhythm of the hands and upper body. Rhythm is essential for shots that are quick, accurate and powerful. The results also provide an overview of the key points related to shooting styles from coaching manuals, and it is found that these are useful. The findings indicate that shooting training should be more creative and that coaches should focus more on different environments. This could help with rhythm, which is a significant challenge for many players while performing a shot.
