Information processing ability of karate players during the punching attack (tsuki-waza) using video stimulation

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the information processing ability of a karate players from behavior index and physiological index during choice reaction task by karate video. The participants in the experiment were set in two groups based on their experience of karate. The Elites group cons isting 7 members, who belong to university A karate club. The Novices group consisting 7 members had no karate experience. The task of the experiment participants was to press buttons when the video certain content. If the video showed the upper punch, the participants had to push the button in the right hand. If the video showed the middle punch the participants had to push the button in the left hand. In this experiment, the reaction time and correct answer rate from the presented stimulus to button press as a behavioral index, the P300 latency and amplitude to the stimulus as physiological index were measured. As a result, on the one hand it was shown that in the Vas of task difficulty, there was no significant difference between the Elites group and the Novices group, and both groups felt similar to each other. On the other hand, in the reaction time and P300 latency, the Elites group was significantly shorter than the Novices group, and the difference was remarkable in the upper punch. Although there was no significant difference in the P300 amplitude, it was shown that the effect size in the main effect of the group and punch type was large. These results suggest that the Elites group has high information processing ability during the choice reaction to punch using video stimulation. This result will be useful information to elucidate the brain mechanisms involved in the skillful movement generation of the athletes.
