Social construction of strength and conditioning coach knowledge and practice: What the construction means to developing strength and conditioning coaches

Knowing that critical selfreflection is an essential part of continual development, how do strength and conditioning coaches (sccs) effectively question their practices and basic assumptions? The social construction of knowledge theory is a social theory that has rich potential for sccs' development because it enables them to make judgments about the effectiveness of their knowledge, beliefs, and practices. In describing the social construction of sccs' knowledge and practice, this article makes clear how the production of the ideal sporting body could be understood more in relation to dominant capitalist discourses than sporting excellence, using renowned social construction theorist, Michel Foucault.
