Considerations in approaching a management theory for applying IT-innovations in sports

Innovation causes growth, nowadays experts in all kinds of categories are aware of the importance of innovation and its role in achieving goals and also keeping high competitive position in the local or global environment. Sports also has perceived the importance of innovation and technology during its lifetime. Thanks to lots of research in the last years, the benefit and effect of innovation and technology is now obvious and clear for us in the field of sport. But in spite of all endeavors the lack of a management theory put itself in front of our eyes. Innovation and technology should be managed in order to enable us for maximization and optimization the efficiency and effectiveness of them and making innovation as a routine manner in sport. Innovation is nothing new to sport, but everything that is "new" and adopted to facilitate a competitive advantage. In the sport context, innovations that are solutions to a pre-identified problem or need are critical to developing sport and for maximizing the experiences and performances of individuals and organizations (Ringuet-Riot, Carter and James; 2014).Recent improvements in training systems in top level sports mostly share their origin in IT-technologies. For example, the advent of new procedures in object detection made it possible to introduce position detection on a routine base. New generations of sensors and intelligent algorithms are about to start a revolution in field-based performance analysis (Ghorbani & Lames, 2015). The background for innovation definition is very vast, as examples, innovation is about helping organizations to grow. Growth is often measured in terms of turnover and profit, but can occur in knowledge, in human experience, and in efficiency and quality (O`Sullivan D. & Dooley L., 2009). Damanpour, Wolfe, Christensen and Raynor explained that innovation represents the development of an entirely new product, service category, or production system, where knowledge experience are limited (Oybag, Esen and Esen, 2013). The term innovation stresses on product, process, position, and paradigm (Tidd & Bessant, 2013). Whatever IT and Computer-based innovations have more influence on sports, the needs of a management view towards applying innovations in sports, which can present itself as a theory, put itself more in front of our eyes. This fact that still a systematic research and effort that can cover policy of implementation innovation hasn`t been done and completed, was the main reason to arrange this kind of project. So the aim of this paper is mentioning the method and problem of approaching a management theory for applying IT innovations in elite sports, a management theory to optimize and maximize the profitability and competitive advantages. This paper is going to explain a structural perspective for approaching this management theory and then go more with empirical parts.
